Many mothers believe that the weaning process is about switching a baby’s diet from breastmilk to formula milk. This is incorrect. Weaning is actually about stopping breastfeeding, the physical act of feeding the child from the breast. It is important to note that weaning does not coincide with the no longer providing breastmilk. Mothers can still provide breastmilk by pumping their milk and feeding the breastmilk to their babies in a baby bottle. It is very possible and perfectly alright to wean a child from breastfeeding and breastmilk straight to solid foods. When weaning to solid food before formula milk, it often means that the mother has provided breastmilk all the way up to the 6th or 8th month, which is actually the most ideal situation for any child.
