Having cracked heels is usually very common among those people who do not wear shoes and in those who have dry and thick skin around the edges of the heel. We all have a fat pad under the heel that wants to expand out sideways when we walk and stand. So therefore the more fat that is deposited there, surely the more expansion there will be. A shoe will help hold the fat under the heel. If the skin is dry and not supple, it will want to crack as it expands. If happens that there is some thick skin around the heel, then these cracks will be deep.
