Becoming a great wedding photojournalist is always within reach but takes a good eye and sharp skills.  One of the most important aspects though, is having the right equipment.  You can always get a great shot with the basic tools but consider how a longer lens will help make your photos stand out.  Having long glass will allow you to fade back even further so you don’t intrude on the moment.  Your subjects will not even know you’re there and you’ll get the most spontaneous and candid expressions.
