What exactly is an acoustic guitar? Well, the official definition would be something like this: An acoustic guitar produces its sound through stings, a soundboard, and the body of the guitar. I know, not super descriptive, but those are the basics. Now, an electric guitar produces sound through the strings, but uses electronic amplification to allow you to hear the sound.
